All You Need To Know To Go To The NCBS Atascadero Film Festival This Wednesday

bglogoThe Festival: Roger & Rosemary Siminoff will host the NCBS Film Festival at their home  in Atascadero this Wednesday evening. Film Festival Director Michael Hall will emcee.

This is a 3-hour version of the festival held earlier this year as a part of the Northern California Bluegrass Society’s Bluegrass On Broadway Festival in Redwood City. The Atascadero showing is co-sponsored by the California Bluegrass Association. The event supports the artistic work of independent filmmakers and of the International Bluegrass Music Museum (IBMM) Oral History Project of Owensboro, KY.

Good Old Fashioned Radio With 27strings On KKUP Monday Night

Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival Band 27strings will play live in the KKUP studios during Mike Russell’s Monday Night Bluegrass program, 6:00-9:00pm on May 14. The station can be heard in the South Bay and Monterey Bay areas at 91.5 FM.

Michael Hall of the Northern California Bluegrass Society will be a guest on the program and will have information about the upcoming NCBS Film Festival on May 16, the NCBS Boulder Creek Bluegrass & Old Timey Festival July 13-15, the NCBS Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival August 9-12, and about upcoming NCBS-sponsored concerts this summer with The Avett Brothers (June 23) and String Cheese Incident (July 14 & 15) at Berkeley’s Greek Theater.

Boulder Creek Bluegrass & Old-Timey Festival Set For July 13-15 With Music & Art

The weekend of July 13-15, 2012 will bring the NCBS Boulder Creek Bluegrass & Old Timey Festival to several venues throughout the small mountain town, 12 miles north of Santa Cruz on Highway 9.

The festival will begin on Friday night  in Barry Tanner’s  PASS Recording Studio, one block from the main drag in Boulder Creek. The cameras should be there from our local cable TV station, to be part of the Brookdale Bluegrass Hour that is  shown every Monday night.

On Saturday morning, a FREE concert will be held at Boulder Creek Park, next to the the local swimming hole. In addition to the music, the street will be lined with arts and crafts as this festival has invited the local artists to be part of the show.

Beginning Saturday afternoon, the festival moves to Scopazzi’s Restaurant, then from 7:00-11:00pm the show moves to the Boulder Creek Recreation Hall for the big evening show.

On Sunday, we will be back at PASS Studios, followed by with an evening jam at the Boulder Creek Brewing Company.

The bands will include The Juncos, The String Slingers, The Driftless, Common Cents, Laura Lind, BanjerDan, Sons Of Jefferson, Cactus Bob & Praire Flower, Jean Butterfield, Regina Barlett, and more.

This will be the largest festival since we moved from the old Brookdale Lodge The weekend will be fun and we hope you will join us! More information is on the brookdalebluegrass.com website. NCBS has sponsored all Brookdale/Boulder Creek festivals several time each year since 1998.

NCBS Atascadero Film Festival To Present “Fanning The Fire” On May 16

ftf-dvd-tn“Fanning The Fire — Bluegrass For A New Generation,” a documentary about the launch of a young Mexican-American’s bluegrass music career in Texas, will be on the program for the repeat of the 5th Annual NCBS International Bluegrass Music Museum Film Festival that was held earlier in 2012 in Redwood City.

The Wednesday, May 16 film festival will be hosted by NCBS members Roger & Rosemary Siminoff at their Atascadero home from 7:00-10:00pm. This FREE event requires an (RSVP) siminoff (at) siminoff (dot) net.

In the film, Lucas White of Corsicana, Texas talks about learning to play bluegrass music and meets and eventually performs with his favorite bluegrass musicians at the Bloomin’ Bluegrass Festival near his hometown.

The film by Dallas attorney & CPA and bluegrass musician Alan Tompkins is a project of the Bluegrass Heritage Foundation of Farmer’s Branch, TX and is Tompkins’ first cinematic project.

The documentary was filmed at the 2011 Labor Day weekend event held at Camp Mather near Yosemite National Park. The Strawberry Music Festivals are held each Memorial Day and Labor Day.
